Hi, my husband and I are thinking about buying a house. I'm 25 and he's 27. We were told of a couple of agents, relatives of colleagues. But I'm not quite sure if they're objective sources of info. MOst of our friends are just thinking about getting a house as well. So, I'm wondering if anyone out there can recommend a great mortgage broker/agent..? Also, I've read in a lot of blogs that we would need the help of a lawyer, too. Is there a kind of lawyer specific to real estate? Does the agent usually refer you to the lawyers and inspectors?Recs would be good as well. We're thinking about buying a house in the Union/Springfield, NJ area. Thanks a Lot!

J

i like either loansearch.com or Atlantic Stewardship Bank : Mortgage Rates

If asbnow is the same rate, i would go directly to them.

4.75 with no points seems about the going rate on a 30 year.

I know there was someone in here who was talking about a 3.75% 30 year mortgage and then disappeared ... ?

yes in my opinion you should use a lawyer. Your realtor can recommend one.

if it is refinance it is no brainer to go with online broker like amerisave.com (I just closed with them and can recommend my representative as with amerisave it is hit or miss with kind of loan agent you get and mine was quite responsive, please note that I dont get a single penny for the recommendation)

for buying a house, if you have sufficient downpayment and good credit history still amerisave is the way to go otherwise local broker are good. Usually big banks like chase and wachovia are safe for buying, you can always refinance later. Pl send me PM I can give you name of couple of brokers

You might post what section of the state you are looking in since realtors tend to specialize in certain geographic areas.

go directly to a bank, forget brokers. there is nothing a broker can do that a bank can't, anymore. plus, brokers are dishonest and only make money by charging you.

Default Realtors

Hi:

Regarding realtors - pick up a Sunday paper and visit some open houses in the area you are interested in. This will give you a chance to see what is on the market and also meet some realtors who you might like to work with.

I'd probably agree with espo222 and look into some local banks as to obtaining a mortgage rather then a broker - or get recommendations from the realtor you choose.
