I am a Postdoctoral fellow originally from India. I am going to work in Upper East Side of Manhattan near central park in Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I plan to move in July 2011. I am married with 2 year old kid. My employer is offering me subsidized 1 BR accommodation for $1500-2000 in Manhattan itself -Any suggestions on this ?. However, I am more interested in New Jersey. My budget is $1000 - $1200 maximum on accommodation. Please advice some good places, as well as apartments to live so that I can keep no more than 1.20 hours for commute. Please suggest not only places to live but also some ECONOMICAL APARTMENT COMPLEXES so that I can call them . My choice is a apartment that has a Resident PARKING (need to be able to park my car at my apartment - no random on-street parking or parking far away) Safety of the area is a concern. Good commuter line or Door to Door commute or carpool ride is preferable. Please advice. Thanks in advance. Shruti

Hackensack comes to mind.
Check the high rises along Prospect Ave- They all have private parking lots, and public transportation into Manhattan is pretty convenient.
