Try the Ironbound section of Newark.

They also hang out in Harrison/Kearny (forget which town, I always get those 2 mixed up).

The Ironbound is the most portuguese and brazilian neighborhood in the country, It's also a very beautiful place, so there is that.

Then there is next door in Harrison/Kearny/Belleville, and to the west parts of Morris County (Dover, Morristown) have large portuguese populations

The Ironbound? Beautiful?? Yeah right.

I live here. The only time it looks nice is at night, and only sort of.

Don't get me wrong, I love living here... but it's an urban neighborhood with mostly older buildings and with a fair share of gritty areas.

I didnt mean its aesthetically pleasing, just as a community its very thriving, especially while being in a city like Newark.

off-topic, I've been trying to find an affordable place in the Ironbound forever, any tips?

What is affordable to you?

Check craigslist for shares, there's usually rooms going for $500-$600 per person. You really have to be careful of the location though, I wouldn't want to live close to Raymond blvd or the Northeast section of the Ironbound. Also stay north of Chestnut st.

Actually, I believe that Fall River, MA is the largest.

I'm a pretty cheap cat, with low housing standards, so I try not to spend any more than $800/mo if it's possible, think the Ironbound has anything in that range?

You're right actually. When I think of it the Ironbound seems far more spanish than portuguese these days...
