Hi All -
My boyfriend and I are currently living in Jersey City (by Grove) and are looking to get out of the congestion that is Hudson/Bergen county. I work in Chelsea and he works in Jersey City, so we'd need to keep close to public transit (preferrable train) for the commutes. We've been looking around and have zeroed in on NE Monmouth areas, but don't know much about them. We really like Atlantic Highlands and have found a few places in Keyport, but have heard mixed reviews. Red Bank is lovely, but might be too congested for us. Any insight on living, traffic, commutes, etc would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

I should add that we are looking to rent, not buy and would prefer a small house or townhouse over an apartment complex...

Compared to Jersey City, Red Bank isn't congested at all. The vast majority of the towns in NE Monmouth are very nice, albeit a little pricey. Highlands and Atlantic Highlands are both in great locations. Mix of blue collar fishermen and white collar people commuting to NYC and around the greater tri-state area.

If you end up in Atlantic Highlands there is the option of taking the ferry in to the city. More money to be sure but way less aggravation (assuming you do not get iced in on Xmas eve but that is another story). Also, AH has less overall congestion but weekend summer traffic to get to Sandy Hook can be horrifying.
