I live in Phoenix and the lifestyle is pretty laid back, (fairly dull) no huge nightlife or really any entertaining things. Not many bands to go and see and the people are pretty California wanna-bes. Things are pretty far away from each other and not best place for walking since theres hardly any sidewalks. It gets to 115 degrees in the summer time but it is good for cheap cost of living!

Id like to know what NJ is all about since I've never been.

Could be very stressful for a working class person especially with a family. Very different from AZ.

It varies. It can be rush, rush, rush if you're near one of the cities, or you can enjoy the laid-back shore scene (it's not like the TV show, really), and there are rural areas in the southern and western parts. Being near NYC or Philly would allow you to take advantage of those cities' amenities, such as concerts, pro sports, etc. In all parts of the state, you're near a smaller city (Hoboken, Morristown, Montclair, Red Bank, Asbury Park, New Brunswick, Princeton, etc. etc.) with downtowns where there's plenty of restaurants, bars, nightlife on a smaller scale. The cost of living is very high almost anywhere in the state.

I've been to Phoenix in August. "Dry heat" or not, 110 degrees is HOT!

I think the lifestyle varies ALOT between south Jersey and north Jersey.

And between city and rural areas. I agree with the poster that said your lifestyle can be whatever you want it to be.

Even if you live 'at the shore'; your lifestyle there would be crowded during the summer, but wonderful during the winter - IMO. The southern shore areas, anyway.

from central Jersey:
+ an hour train to NYC and 1.5 hr drive to Philly
+ Enjoy all four seasons, 1-2 hrs drive to PA/NJ snow, camping or Jersey shore
+ lots of activities & festivals
New Jersey Family Festivals

As the most densely populated state:
- rush hour congestion & aggressive drivers
- urban sprawl & high-density housing in commuting distance to Philly & NYC
+ increased social/business networking
+ various size colleges & their scenes

NJ is way too big and too varied to be able to easily answer this question.
