I am in hudson county right now with public transport in doorsteps. I am looking to move to Princeton area for a job, and was wondering if there are apartment communities with walking distance to grocery, pharmacy and/or day care. I have a 2 year old who would enjoy playing in the park rather than sit home all day. Any suggestions?

I have looked into walkscore.com for most of the communities listed on forrent.com, but none seem to exceed score of 40. I prefer plainsboro due to lower cost, but not sure of the crime situation there? Will the apartment complex there (i.e avalon) have same security than the expensive Princeton counterpart?

Thanks so much for the help in advance.

Crime should not be a problem in Plainsboro.

As far as Plainsboro, Fox Run is probably the most walkable apartment community. Walkable to parks, the mini-mall, that new-ish Plainsboro Town Center area, the library, etc. It also has gas heat, which is a plus because the rest of them have electric.

Crime isn't an issue in Plainsboro really. I guess there could be random events, but it's not what I would consider a place you have to worry about it.

I agree about Plainsboro being a safe neighborhood.

Avalon though isn't in Plainsboro. They're in West Windsor and Lawrenceville.
Fox Run is a good recommendation for ability to walk to the Towne Center, but I believe Deer Creek would be the closest to a shopping center & Hunters Glen which is across the street from Deer Park is next door to Morris Davison park.

Isn't there still that other mini-mall near Fox Run that has a lot more stuff in it than the one near Hunters Glen? But yeah, Hunters Glen and Deer Creek are walkable too, especially to that park right on Pboro Road.

I'm not sure which mini-mall you're referring to by Fox Run, or we can be talking about the same one. The one next to Deer Creek is the Princeton Meadows Shopping Center which has the Asian Food Center of Princeton for groceries & other shops.

No, the other one on the corner of Scudders Mill Rd across the street from the new Town Center development.

I actually lived in Fox Run for about 6 months. At some point after I moved I was told it was one of the "less safe" apartment complexes in Plainsboro. I never would have known that living there though. Never saw or heard of anything bad happening there.

That's where my office is (along with the Super Fresh). While it's walkable to Fox Run, it's one heck of a walk!

Deer Creek & Hunters Glen are much easier/shorter walks to Princeton Meadows shopping.
