I don't think the police always appreciate armed citizens.

Do you remember this? The police thought he was the shooter

police appreciate civilians that they can murder when they raid their homes for drugs (or likely the wrong home for drugs). they also appreciate dogs available for them to murder them also. i dont really care what police appreciate, the police arent there when the criminal is shooting up the place.

This is probably just one of the reasons NJ is reluctant to hand out CCW permits to just about anybody. Here in gun friendly NC even though many of us have permits we are not allowed to consider ourselves part time police assistants. Your CCW permit is for you and your family's protection, you are not allowed to be police helpers.

BTW even though NC issues CCW permits and many carry we have more violent crimes per 100K population than NJ does.

Guess you guys are safer than we are and we are armed. Who would have thunk it?

These were my mothers uncles and cousins. They were in their 60s+ when I was a kid and when I asked if they were allowed to still carry they all said they werent.

My uncle (pres of FOP for a number of years) had to jump through hoops to try to keep his. He passed before he was given permission.

One of my very good friends is a CO for Union County and he has told me he doesn't know anyone retired with a CCW so.....not saying you're wrong, just that "I" have no personal knowledge of anyone with one.

In PA, almost every guy i know out there has one.

I would say 80% of the retired guys I worked with have a NJ retired LEO carry permit. Most carry all the time. Out of the remaining 20%, the ones that do carry, carry under the provision of HR-218.

Oh, yes, I remember that. If nothing else, at least he was enthusiastic. He's learned that you don't show up at an event like that with a loaded weapon--or any weapon.
