nothing but PITA and needs fixing all the time
I had one in the other house and rarely used it. From time to time it would jam. Anyone with a septic system can't use them without causing a problem with the holding tank. I don't miss it.

I could understand if you had a septic system...but's that's on the homeowner.

I'm just asking, no snark involved.
Technically, since you're adding a "fixture" to your plumbing system, you need to pull a permit, and they won't issue the permit for the disposal. Of course, there's nothing keeping you from adding one without pulling a permit, just like there's nothing keeping you from building three apartments in your basement.

They might have cause a big problem on disposal. As we all know this is more important thing to do! I think the government should advice each and everyone's resident to get one for them.

I loved mine when I had one! I've been without for about 12 years, and at first it took a little while to remember to not stuff banana peels, etc., down the drain and flip the switch next to the sink that would only turn on the light fixture over the kitchen island.

I've gotten used to composting, but I think it would be nice to have for what you can't compost. Which isn't a lot, I guess, in the scheme of things. Just easier to compost when there isn't so much darn snow.

It really sucks to know some people do not know the importance of proper garbage disposal and recycling. Recycling is one abut some recycling matters more than others. However, there is more to sustainable living than just recycling. Recycling is good, but it is even better not to use disposable goods if possible.

Never had one and I'm ok with cleaning my dishes in the garbage can.

Here's the real reason...many towns in NJ banned garbage disposals years ago because the mafia controlled most of the waste management (garbage hauling) in NY & NJ. Garbage disposals would make for less garbage...which would make for less trash hauling...which would make for less money for the mafia families. It's true.

Well, that is a new conspiracy theory, as far as I am concerned.
Has anyone else ever heard this theory before?
