Thank you everyone for your very useful posts, this has been immensely helpful to me. Unfortunately I am not able to find good places over the internet - the usual sites - apartments.com, forrent.com etc have very few listings in these areas... if someone could direct me to any other websites (maybe local ones) that would be very helpful. Thank you all again for the help.
There aren't that many big apartment complexes in that area that would use listings such as those you listed. You are probably going to be looking at renting from a private owner. You can look on Realtor to see if there is anything that you are interested in and see prices, etc.
do you need to find a place before you get there?
usually only larger places that are corporately managed use things like apartments.com and forrent.com
Thanks for the tips, I will check realtor and craigslist. Since both my wife and I work and have to start on our jobs soon after we get there, and having a 5 year old to find daycare for, we are trying to get a headstart before we actually get there... Thank you again! The posts here have been the single biggest source of information for me!

Thank you for the inputs, actively searching right now! So far, I have craigslist most useful. Realtor.com has been so-so while sublet.com has been a bad investment .
I would still consider Parsippany - I know people have said its too far in this thread, but in the other thread where someone is working in Franklin Lakes, everyone suggested Morristown- which is even farther.
Eventually moved in Riverdale, thanks everyone for your inputs!
