Hi everyone. My husband is taking a job in Murray Hill, NJ and we're relocating from Los Angeles, CA in a couple of months. Can anyone suggest some areas in/around Murray Hill that are under an hour commute? We have a 6-mo and a 2.5 year old and would like to buy an updated home with at least 3-4 bedrooms for around $500K. We are not familiar with the area, school systems, etc. and would like an area that has a lot to offer a young family. We're used to "city living," so an area that has lots of restaurants, boutiquey shops, etc. is ideal. I know Hoboken is great but is out of our price range. Any suggestions that are similar to Hoboken but less expensive w/great schools?? Thanks in advance for your help!

The areas around murray hill are really quite lovely and desirable (murray hill included) but possibly a bit too suburban for what you are looking for? That woudl be the only negative to staying closer to Murray Hill.
Another place that is more city-ish to consider is Montclair.

New Providence would be my first choice. Good schools and beautiful area. You could also look in Berkeley Heights, Stirling, Gillette, Millington, Meyersville (the last four are located in Long Hill Township). All are nice, family oriented towns.

Hope this helps.

Agree with New Providence. Great town, great schools, beautiful community pool. It's also right next to Summit which has an express train to Hoboken/NYC (NP has a station too) and a nice downtown with restaurants etc.
There are many nice towns right around Murray Hill (also, Summit-more suburban urban, Berkeley Heights, Westfield (you may like as it has a big downtown with many restaurants/shops - about 20 min from Murray Hill). Or if you want Morris County, try Chatham or Madison which are within 15min and also on train line.

Overall it's a great area!

All great towns above. Could be challenging getting a 3-4 BR updated home for $500K in many of those towns though.
