I'm going to take a job in NYC. But I want my son to leave in a safe and quiet suburban area. Easy to approach park and library. I'm thinking a 2 bed room apartment with doorman and parking. My budget is less than 1,800. Any recommendations?

...and provide more input. Based on your recommendations, I could list towns in South Jersey or Central Jersey that may fit those requirements because you mentioned nothing about how much commute you want.

Right off the bat though, 1800 budget for all the things you want already eliminates majority of towns in Hudson and Bergen county off your choices...

I dont know of many places that I would consider suburban that have doormen?

i don't know anything about south jersey but how about ridgewood. it's safe, fairly upper middle class town. you could find something for $1800 with 2 Bedrooms easily. It will be old but shoudl be well kept and managed. you can walk to the train station, library and parks. no doormen here though.

heights gardens, mayflower apartments, oak manor should all be ok.

only thing i might say, and this is ridiculous that i have to mention it but it is a fairly wealthy town. that may bother some people in one way or another.

Some nice prewar buildings in Montclair, not doorman, and you would need to call the management companies about availability. Lots of apartments in multi families. Some nice, but busier streets in your budget. Go to gsmls or realtor.com and try ML #'s 2817293, 2826489, 2828950, 2817027, 2828392. You'll make Mom friends easily.

I recommend Hoboken or Montclair. Both have very friendly moms! You can't get any closer than Hoboken, love it! If you live in Montclair, you at least have a train. Don't go as far out as Verona... it looks close on a map but can actually add 30 minutes to your commute!

There are many towns you could consider in Bergen County with a budget of $1800. You are not going to get a doorman style building, however. That budget will be hard meet in Hoboken though, quite hard. Can you describe more of what you are looking for in terms of the town itself?
