So in 2010, i bought a house. in 2010, i also refinanced. what documents do I need from the bank other than the statement of interest paid for filing my taxes? I believe some of the costs at closing are tax deductible...not sure where those are listed.

Thanks!

Sorry I don't have direct knowledge to help but may this could be your starting point?

HUD-1 closing statements for both the purchase and refinance. Some of the items on the forms are deductible, some are not.

Right, you need the HUD-1 (also called the Settlement Statement).

You got this document at your closing.

If you bought a home as a 1st time buyer and took the buyer tax credit, you might need other documents to prove your purchase. Your accountant will let you know.

It should also be noted that if you are claiming the $8K home buyer tax credit you HAVE to file your return by mail. Electronic filing is not allowed.
