Driving by car, you should be able to get to Jersey City from Colts Neck in about 45 minutes. Problem is traffic if it is during a morning commute. You would hit traffic on Route 18 in the EB area right before the turnpike. That can add another 15-20 minutes depending on the time you leave.

so if you were to leave before 6:30am- you'd be ok, right? what about coming home? an hour seems do-able, we were looking at the morris county area, but I just like the looks of Colts Neck better. we were told morris county would take about an hour with traffic as well...what about the train?

Before 6:30am you should be fine. Coming home is usually about the same thing, 20 minutes or so of traffic.

As for Colts Neck, I think you will like it better than Morris County. Colts Neck is beautiful and the area is great. Also the area is very open and the land is hard to find in many other areas.

As far as the train, Colts Neck, NJ does not have a train system in the town. The nearest Public Transportation would be the bus lines. Many of the bordering towns have bus systems like Freehold. If you wanted to take the train, you would have to take a bit of a drive to get to a station. The bus stations are a lot closer.

nobody from colts neck goes via EB to get to the turnpike, try going north on 34 to th parkway or 9 to the turnpike. 45 minutes a bit longer if you hit bad rush hour traffic

the closest bus would be on 79, for the train you could drive to middeltown or matawan stations, do you live there?

OMG- for the first time, I am actually excited about moving to NJ!!! I was told by our realtor up there that Morris County would be the ONLY viable area. How are the taxes in Monmouth county? Schools? 45 mins-1 hr of commute is what we were planning on for Morris, and I like the looks of Colts Neck WAAAAY better! The train is no biggie, my husband didn't want to take it anyway!

Default about an hour

The commute could take an hour in the morning on average, unless you leave around 6 or 6:30am, then 45 minutes. You could take 34N to Parkway to Turnpike or 18N to 9N to Turnpike. Nobody takes 18N to Turnpike unless you live in East Brunswick and have to travel that horrible highway.

Here is a link to some school information for Colts Neck:

Greatschools.net Search: colts neck

As for the taxes in the area, they are not nexessarily high by my standards but I do not know what yours are. For example a ten year old 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath colonial will be around $10K-$12K.
