I'm 27 and currently renting in Hoboken, but commuting up to Franklin Lakes for work. Hoboken is getting a little old for me - I'm sick of the commute, traffic and parking, plus I'm pretty much over the packed/loud bar scene. Also, I'd rather not have to have roommates anymore...

I was thinking about trying to buy a small place (probably townhouse) west of here. There's lots of companies in my industry all over north Jersey (I may look to change jobs in the next year or two), as far south as New Brunswick, so I was thinking of looking somewhere centrally located. I want to still be in an area with things to do, and be close to other young professionals.

I've heard good things about the Morristown area, but wanted to see if anyone had any other good suggestions.

Thanks!

I would start in Morristown. Still has some stuff to do. Centrally located. On 287 so it gives you lots of options as far as jobs in the future and commuting.

Montclair, Denville, are nice towns in my opinion. What kind of budget are you looking at?

I would stick with the Morristown area personally. You're still close to the city, not too far from Franklin Lakes and not too far from New Brunsiwck. There are a ton of jobs in Piscataway too, which would be a short commute from Morristown. Other areas you could check out are Bridgewater and Summit, but coming from Hoboken those towns may be a little too quiet/boring for you.

why not rent in morristown for a year and see how you like the location? assuming you're single, i'd try living in a town like that for a little while, familiarizing yourself with other towns in NJ, and then buy. i like morristown for sure.

Fair Lawn is reasonably priced, but not many townhouses there. And its next door to Franklin Lakes
Love Paramus, but it's all houses.
Mahwah/Ramsey are great, way up North in NJ..

Yeah, whatever you do, you should rent there first for a year.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I thought about renting for another year, but I've moved a few times for work the past few years, and the thought of moving 2 more times, plus throwing more money away on rent isn't too appetizing. I'll give it some more thought though.

Go with Morristown. It has nightlife and a lot of condos and townhouses and is easy to commute to.

Morristown will be more exciting than a suburb near franklin lakes

mahwah and ramsey have townhouses and condos under 300k
nice towns and close to FL but boring for 27 single i think.
hawthorne may have 1 or 2 condos in lafayette hills (3 years young)
