My job will be in Florham Park, but we want to live at most 15 miles from Princeton in a rural setting. Can I have a commute less than an hour each way from such a location? Any recommended areas?

rural? no. rural in my definition ain't close to florham park *and* 15 miles from princeton lol. the only places that fit your criteria minus rural would be around somerville, southern bridgewater. you probably could get to florham park in an hour from there. anything further south will be over an hour and anything north will be more than 15 miles.

Look for something in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater. The most convienent location in all of central NJ. Not rural at all but lots of 1 acre properties. Located between the first and second ridges of the Watchung Mtn. range away from all the highway noise.Should really be called hills but somebody named them mountains long ago.

15 miles from Princeton puts you in Hillsborough if you follow Route 206, or probably around North Brunswick if you follow Route 1. Hillsbourough is "more" rural that North Brunswick, but it's developing quickly. I guess it also depends on your definition of "rural"- you're not going to find 5-acre lots in central NJ (unless you've got several million to spend....).

From Hillsborough, you'd be around 25-30 miles to Florham Park, which could be the better part of an hour in rush hour traffic.

Default CA to NJ - Check out Somerset!

WOW, sounds like me a fews back. Relocated from CA to NJ - settled in Somerset, NJ. Love it. We're in a wonderful area: big home situated on one acre. Check out Middlebush area of Somerset (Franklin Township), NJ. Many of the higher end developments have property and some are considered rural - you might find wells and septic systems in some areas. Our development was build on farm land and there is still a major farm down the road and Franklin Township open space (so no can build). Close to NYC, Princeton, and a 2 hour trip down the shore. Florsham Park is about 35 -40 minutes from Somerset - depending on how deep into Florsham park you will be going. Good luck.

Didn't ask - do you want to buy a house or looking to rent?
