I am considering moving to Vernon, NJ. I have been looking into "Black Creek sanctuary Condos which are beautiful.
If anyone has info on these condo's and vernon, NJ would be greatly appreciated.
How is the commute to NYC?
I heard there are lots of black bears in that area - is it true and safe if there are kids involved?
How is it living in those condos?
Are the people who live there friendly?
Are there any supermarkets and shops that are close by?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Vernon is a very nice town, but unfortunately you do have to drive everywhere. Great if you don't need to leave very often, but a costly nuisance when you have to commute. I would estimate the commute to NYC to be anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. If you have to work in the city, I would not recommend living in Vernon. The commute will quickly wear you out. There's a park n ride near St. Johns Vianney Church in Stockholm, but I'm not generally familiar with public transit options to the city.

There's an A&P supermarket that's barely a five minute drive from Black Creek.

It isn't Mayberry, but most of the people are nice.

I only see bears a couple times a year, but some people have had issues. It is a rural area afterall. But it really isn't much of an issue.

It wouldn't make much sense to drive to Newton from Vernon. They'd be better off driving east and stopping at another station.

I'm pretty sure there's some sort of bus service within a reasonable distance, I just don't know where.

I think the closest commuter bus might me the one in Newfoundland. Their is a park-ride lot there just behind Rt 23.

That may be it. It would make more sense to go there than to Stockholm, let alone Newton or Sparta.

But like I said, a commute from Vernon to NYC is highly discouraged.

Agreed. I wouldn't want to do it but there are people who sacrifice a shorter commute for clean air, scenic beauty, decent schools and relatively lower priced housing and taxes. I have loved living here for over 20 years but now we are empty nesters with too big house. Time for us to move on.

The 196 Express out of West Milford park & ride Is the best option from Vernon. It takes 1.5 hours to port authority and is very reliable.
