How's the area near St. Peters College, on Duncan Avenue near West Side Ave? I am considering buying a property there and would appreciate anyone familiar with that area to give me some ideas about the neighborhood. Thank you very much.
I work there right in that area and It's not very pleasant, especially at night. I think you better visit the area first in the day and at night to see it for yourself.

Dont.
Keep heading north, and find a place north of JSQ PATH station.
At the end of Duncan Avenue by Rt.440 you have one of the most dangerous housing projects in the state of NJ. nuff said.
Duncan projects have been knock down and already have new housing built. This area can be shady (for a newcomer like you) but crime has gone down since the projects were torn down. I personally wouldn't mind living there and have no problem being there. Best option for you is to simply find a day for you to stroll through the area. Me and you may have different ideas of what a "bad" area is. Transportation is relatively easy in that section, only hassle is using the train since there are none close by except for J.Sq which can be quiet a walk.

U are correct. We have different views of what safe is. Duncan projects are still there and crime still exists. They replaced SOME high rise buildings with lower density buildings. If I was spending my hard earned money on a house I wouldn't buy a home next to a housing project. That's me, if i had a choice I wouldn't. You can buy anything, anywhere you want.

Sorry my quote for different view on "bad" was meant for the OP. There still is one building left but it is vacant and no one leaves there anymore. Also he isn't necessarily talking about living right on 440 where the projects were, he just means the area of Duncan & Westside. He could be looking at a home on Duncan & Olean or westside & Jewette.
My son is thinking of attending St. Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J - I keep hearing that the area is "ROUGH" , any feedback is appreaciated !!!
Does he plan to stay on campus? but the area is somewhat "rough", it is not for people with no backbones, meaning if he is the type to RUN away from confrontation that i wouldn't suggest he live around there. Most of the "problems" happen at night and there isn't much to do around there at night so i doubt your son will run into anything/
It isn't horrible as if there is constant crime, but remember that it is a CITY. If there are any concerns about safety than your son should just stay in the suburbs, every city has the "chance" of something happening and JC is no different. However, St. Peter's is a great school and doubt your son would have too many problems.
