Me and my husband are moving to NJ soon from texas, and from the looks of it East Orange is the only place where we can afford to get an apartment. But you know how it goes, if the places has a high area of cheap apartments, that must mean something is wrong :/

Do any of you guys know if East Orange is safe? Because we are planning to use the transit a lot since we only have one car. I read some forums on that subject but their all where made in 2007 2009.

Also if you guys know of any other places that have cheap apartment prices like in east orange that is safe?

Thanks guy!

I grew up in East Orange and still have family there. East Orange has gone through a renaisance of some sorts, but still isn't considered the safest place to live. For a decent two bedroom, you should look to pay between $1100 and $1300 without utilities. In terms of location, the safest areas are those along the Bloomfield border. I last lived in that area about 12 years ago near Watsessing Park at it was okay. You may want to look for a low-rise apartment building or a unit in a two family house in that area. You may find an aparment in Bloomfield near the old Columbus Hospital for that price range as well and it won't be too bad. Belleville in that area is another option as well.

Why would you move to one of the most expensive states in the nation with only a $600-700 rental budget? You're going to end up living in a pretty rough area, as you've seen.

Yeah, that's too low. I think you need at least $1000 per month for somewhere ok from what I have seen anyway. At least. Maybe more. And that's for a 1 br.

900$ is the starting price for decent to good areas depending on what part of the state you live in... I think you can get down to 700$ in South Jersey. What is the reason your moving to Jersey?
