All the labs accept shipped soil samples. Most are mailed in. Not like they are going to get tested on the spot anyway.

Up here they accept the samples in ziplock bags. UNH has printout forms online.

I don't understand why so many people are so intimidated by soil tests. There are soil test kits available at any good garden center. The directions are on the label and even if the test results are not 100% accurate, you should be doing more than one test in any given area, and all of those results will come out different anyway. Depending on what your testing for theres usually a range of about .5PH to where whatever your planting will do fine. The idea of a soil test kit is to give you an idea of how good or bad your soil might be and if you need to make amendments or not. Even if you pay the $20.00 or so to your local AG center it takes at least 2 weeks for you to get that info back. (If your lucky) Meantime you could have done it yourself and already amended your own soil for the better.

i'm not intimidated by them. but i've read up on it, and one person tested a kit sold at a store. the result said his pH was 5, but his lab sample tested at 7. if he had treated his lawn assuming a pH at 5, he would have done the reverse of what he needed to do, pushing his real pH of 7 up higher, and killing his lawn.

i'd rather have it done right then done by tomorrow.
