I canceled my appointment and went home. A few weeks ago I had a similar situation. I had a meeting in Princeton. It ended at 5:00. I took the dinky to Princeton Jct. The next northbound train didn't come til 6:12 PM. And it was a super local. I didn't get to Newark until after 7, and to Jersey City by about 7:30. 2.5 hrs to get home from Princeton? (most of that time sitting around waiting) Cmon! There are huge gaps in the schedule during busy times of the day. It doesn't make any sense to me, and twice bitten, I think I'm going to rent cars for appointments/meetings in the burbs from now on.
OR you could of used NJT 190 bus from port authority!!!! its 24/7 and goes express to rutherford its very frequent too. ouch so the trains are flawed too about trains ask nexis4jersey.

I love njtransit. I go from princeton junction to nyc every day. 35 trains each way everyday (14 of them express). Every 5 to 15 minutes during rush hours. I don't know what else I could ask for. Move near the NEC line. It's excellent!
