The answer will surprise you. By the way greyhound is only $25 to NYC from AC and IS WAY MORE FREQUENT THAN 319!!!!! and 319 stops at toms river before NYC.
I honestly think that you don't understand that when I say weak rail system, I mean weak RAIL system. Last time I checked, rail is NOT the same thing as bus and buses (NJ transit) generally move slower than trains. That's a no brainer.

I don't really live near the 551 stops, the 554 is the only bus that runs in my town. And that bus is ALWAYS making stops, I see that bus pulling over for a stop all the time when I'm driving back at home. Now why in the heck would I want to waste time getting to Philly by bus when I could take the rail which makes a stop in my town and moves much faster!

Yes 319 does stop in Toms River, but if you check the schedule on the NJ Transit, it skips some of the stops frequently throughout the day. Plus it runs every two hours on the weekday schedule.

There is no question that South Jersey needs a better RAIL system than it currently has. Other than the Patco, there is only the AC line and the ACES train from AC to NYC. That's it!

Now that you mentioned buses, the bus system could also use some improvement. What would take me an 30 or so mins to get from my town to the mall in Mays Landing (using 2 buses) only takes 15 mins by car. It's not bad for So. Jersey (could be worse), but there is always room for improvement, starting with the busing system in my town. Just because it looks good on a map doesn't necessarily mean its as good applied in the real world. It's one thing to see it on a map; it's entirely something else actually riding the bus to get from point A to point B when both are not on the same bus route.

It's a waste of taxpayer dollars.

If you buy a house near a disturbance, you have to expect to be disturbed. The rule is: Don't move next to something you don't want to be near, whether its floods, or cars, or locomotives, or airplanes. It's a big country. There is no need to choose to live near something that you then need to NIMBY to death every time that something needs widening or enlarging.
Well i agree with the Flooding , but if you move near a Highway and theres a thick line of trees between you and it you should expect the state to leave them alone. Flooding is different , those people are morons.....and the Original planners....

the rail wont get you to mays landing so they need more trains via red bank extention and MOM then a cross bus along rte 50 so u can take a direct rte to the mall. More cros bus rtes and more train service I looked at 554 schedule its SLOW AND 319 IS NOT SUPPOSED TO STOP ANYWHERE OTHER THAN TOMS RIVER AND AC ANYWAY!!!! Plus for NY to AC greyhound and academy offer extra service!!!!
