I don't think it is weird. I am sure 90% of the crowd at a Justin Beiber concert are escorted by parents or some other adult.

People need to seriously stop with this frame of mind.
THE LAST THING A CRIMINAL FROM NEWARK WANTS TO DO IS SHOOT UP A WHITE FAMILY FROM THE SUBURBS!
The streets would literally come to a screeching halt & all illegal activity would shutdown in NWK until the suspect was apprehended.
The sad reality of the American mind frame is "ghetto" types killing other "ghetto" types is unfortunate, but par for the course. However, if you kill some good ol' all American folks from the burbs it's time to bring out the cavalry.

Safety won't be an issue.

Traffic will probably be an issue.

I think the quickest, most efficient strategy is to drive to the Harrison PATH station, park there, and take the PATH into Newark Penn. Then, it's 2 blocks to Pru Center. This way, you can dodge all the Newark concert traffic.

The only thing I'd worry about with walking the kids from Penn is trying not to loose track of them in the crowd, other than that you should be fine safety wise. Honestly, it's probably less of a PITA to take the train than to drive there, sques5tra had the right idea I think.

I think this is not an irrational question, especially from someone that's not from a city esp. Newark. I go to Prudential Center to see events and I have a 9MM under my shirt. I checkin w/security and they know what seat I'm sitting in. I bet 100 to 200 people do the same thing. That said Penn station is the pits. U have homeless people around and panhandlers and thieves. I constantly look over my shoulder there. I wouldn't want one of my daughters or my wife walking around there. Thats me. So if someone asks the question of is it safe in the area, I don't take it as a racist question or comment. I wouldn't want to walk around a trailor park or a poor area in the suburbs either.

LOL , Penn station isn't the pits.....its one of the better stations in NJ. Theres also alot of security at Penn between the PAPD , Amtrak PD , and NJTPD theres alot... Midtown Elizabeth is one of the worst stations........ Do we even have Trailer parks in NJ?
