This is great info and so helpful! My husband and I may be moving to NJ from Detroit area. He would have to work in Cherry Hill. What town is the best towns in communting distance to there? This is great thanks!
I'm tired of everyone downing this state!!! there is alot of nice towns here from up north to down south. Everyone makes fun of NJ but people are still coming here.
I think it really depends on what you're looking for...for a hip, cosmopolitan atmosphere, you really can't beat Hoboken, although property/rent prices are starting to really reflect that fact. For a small town vibe, I think Westfield, Caldwell, Madison, Morristown, Mendham are all great. As for even smaller, village-y type settings, Long Valley (Washington Twp., Morris County) is BEAUTIFUL and close enough to bigger towns like Chester, Hackettstown, and Morristown to give you everything you'd want close by. Also, Tewksbury, Oldwick, Califon, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack/Gladstone, Millington, and Basking Ridge are all extremely nice.
Morris county is pretty amazing. Some key towns: Chatham, Madison, Florham Park, Morristown, Morris Plains. These are expensive but high quality of life areas. Your about 30 mins from NY on a good day and an hour from the shore points and an hour from PA (for those that like to go antiquing).
If I would ask this question to any of my friends, I am pretty sure they would name the town that they live in.
It depended on what one is looking for.
I have friends that live in Morristown. Friday and Saturday they don’t have to drive – restaurants and bars are within walking distance. To them Morristown is the best town. This also answers Olea’s question - start in Morristown and don’t park your car on Burger King Plaza, they will tow it away.
My list – any town along 80 from Lake Hopatcong to Wayne (including Dover).
