My job is near Newark Penn Station and I was planning to take the PATH there too. Which lines are you referring to? Is this documented somewhere? I am sorry most of my information is provided by locals who instructed me to live near a PATH station. Thanks!
you can live along the Northeast corridor in Rahway , Metchun , New Brunswick , Along the Morristown line in Morristown , Summit , South Orange or along the North Jersey Coast line in Perth Amboy , South Amboy ,or Red Bank. Those are the 3 towns / small cities along the Electric lines that feed into New York Penn Station @ 34th / 7th Ave. The PATH is along and uncomfortable commute if your going from one end to the other.....so if your working up by 37th Street , its better if you live along a Regional Rail line and commute to Penn station. All 3 Electric lines stop at Newark before NYC.

Northeast Corridor: Direct trains to New York Penn and Newark Penn.
North Jersey Coast: Same as Northeast Corridor
Raritan Valley: Direct trains to Newark Penn, but you have to switch for New York Penn.
Morris & Essex: Direct trains to New York, but service to Newark Penn Station is via Newark Light Rail (I have no personal experience with that)
Montclair/Boonton: Same as Morris & Essex
The New Jersey Transit web site (njtransit.com) has all the schedules.
Of course this widens the options for your commute so you'll have to come up with some other criteria to decide. Not such a bad problem to have though.

Not even close to the same , and only the Montclair line goes to NYP.
I found a couple of apartment complexes in Rahway, just 1.5 blocks from the trains station. Any other locations that match Rahway in convenience and decent apartments that are on one of these lines? if the following cities match Rahway I will concentrate on those:
quoting Nexis4Jersey: "Rahway , Metchun , New Brunswick , Morristown , Summit , South Orange Amboy , South Amboy ,or Red Bank"

Keep in mind Morristown is the farthest from the City / Newark....but there all the same with slight differences. Most are Dense Suburbs or Small Cities..... Try Metchun , South Orange or Red Bank if you liked Rahway.
I'd check out Summit and South Orange. Most Midtown Direct NJT trains (and I think the ones to Hoboken, too) will stop at Newark Broad Street, which has a connection to the light rail... and the midtown direct trains terminate in ny penn.
