Does anyone know how much you have to pay the city of Newark to allow a conversion from 2 to 3 families in the house?
Also, what are the minimum requirements in an attic apartment?
Alternatively, I've been told that what some people do is just add it on to the 2nd floor apartment, keeping it a 2-family house, but upping the rent because of the extra space. Is this the way to go?

For future reference these types of questions are the ones to ask BEFORE you have spent the money on a house.

Any questions about apartment sizes and fees need to be asked to the township. Usually the zoning dept, county clerk, tax assessor, etc. Just call.

As for your contract issues consult a reputable attorney!
