Hi,

the AC in my car broke down, I know DH would suggest sending to Sears Auto, but based on my past experiences with them...I just don't trust them...

Any suggestion on where would you bring your car to have the AC fixed?
I am looking for Union/Morris/Essex County area...

I would assume I can bring it back to the Toyota car dealer, but I think it will be expensive...

Your instincts about Sears are correct. I would only go there for tires and batteries.

You should also avoid other chains like Pep Boys, Midas, Meineke, Monro, AAMCO, etc.

For A/C problems, your best bet is a specialized auto A/C shop.
While I am not familiar with any of those shops in your designated area, a glance through the auto repair section of the Yellow Pages should yield a few names.

There are not a lot of these shops, but they tend to know more about auto A/C than other repair facilities--including dealerships--due to their specialization.

Good advice.

That said this is an honest place that I use: J & N Svc Center

That's right take it to a specialist. I made a mistake having Meineke do my tuneup, they put cheap sparkplugs and now I have check engine light problems and they won't do anything about it because its not covered intheir warrenty. Make sure they gaurentee their work.

Have you tried asking someone to add freon to your car's ac? My dad's car ac stopped working a few years ago and that's what a friend did to get the ac working again.

For Morris County, I highly recommend 2 places:

1. D&M Auto Repair on Main Street in Rockaway, which is not too far off Route 46. They're a general auto repair place.
I just went to them recently to have my A/C looked at. They took a quick look, told me the problem, and estimated how much it would cost to fix. I've used them for years, they are very honest people, and they give fair estimates. I deal with Chris when I go there.
In my case, my air compressor went (exploded actually), and the air coolant was depleted. I wound up trading in my car after that, because it had too many other things wrong with it.

198 E Main St, Rockaway, NJ 07866
(973) 627-9670

2. Rumbello Auto
Rumbello Auto Repair
630 Route 10 West, Whippany, NJ 07981
(973) 515-0706

I used his services for almost 10 years, until I moved to western Morris County. Fair and honest as well. Richie Rumbello and his brother Robbie run the place.

Good luck.

when I got my oil changed, it was what Jiffy Lube suggested to try, but their machine wasn't working on that day... I kind of want to bring it to check... I was busy in the last few months, didn't change the oil for nearly 8000 miles

Use Yelp (San Francisco Restaurants, Dentists, Bars, Beauty Salons, Doctors).

I am also new to NJ and needed to have car repairs. I made my decision about which store to go based on people's reviews/comments from Yelp.
