Hi All,

We are thinking of buying a house in Cranford, NJ. We are familiar that Cranford has a train station but wanted to check if any buses run from Cranford to Jersey City, NJ (by Exchange Place in Jersey City). Please let us know as we couldn't find anything on the site. If you aren't aware can you advice if there are any towns around which have a park and ride and run to Jersey City or close by.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You could catch the train to Newark Penn Station and then take the PATH into Jersey City. The trip from Newark to Exchange Place is around 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, most of the buses in Jersey City travel north-south, and the ones that travel to the west go no further than Newark (on a side note, you can save money by using your monthly pass on the #1 bus rather than taking the PATH, but it will take longer). None of the towns near you have direct service to Jersey City except for Newark.

There are a few trains that connect at Newark and go to Hoboken, but you'd have to take the HBLR from there, which wouldn't save any time.

Thanks for the quick reply.

How much longer would the #1 bus be from Newark to Jersey City? Also, do you know of any park/ride bus stations close by Cranford, where parking is free and they go to Newark? As I am new to Cranford, any input on how easy it is to buy a permit at the train station would also be appreciated.

Here is the schedule for the #1 bus: http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0001.pdf. The trip from Newark to Exchange Place is scheduled to take 35 minutes, but the service is pretty infrequent (every 30 minutes or so).

If you can time yourself for a specific bus, that's great, but I wouldn't go crazy over it. A 10-trip PATH ticket only costs $13 ($1.30 per trip)

I'm not sure about how parking works in that area.
