Hello everybody,
My name is Roberto. Next year I am moving with my wife and two children to NJ. I am looking for an area with a good education system and a save, nice neighborhood. I think that the area of Scotch Plains, Fanwood... could meet these points. I would like to know if you could give me some feedback, mainly about the cost of living and housing.

Hello,

Scotch Plains is a very nice area with Westfield near by and lots of shopping and restaurants. Price of houses are high (and taxes) but you didn't say what price range you were looking around. I have lived all over NJ and that area was one of my favorites. I can't tell you about the school system because I don't have kids but I have heard the school system is good. When you go to sites, such as realtor.com you can do a search and see what the prices are for that area. Good luck!

TK Rapture. You are right I shuold have been more specific. I am looking for a semi-detached house/ duplex with three bedrooms and basement in a range of 300-250000$; does this make sense?? Could anyone guide me through the taxes?
TK again,
ROB

Did you mean 250,000 to 300,000? If so, look in another area....the prices might have gone down a bit recently but I'm sure they are way above that. As far as taxes, my guess starting at 8,000 a year and up.

Smile Nice Town!

Scotch Plains and Fanwood are both very nice towns in Union County, New Jersey. They're both on the NJ Transit Raritan Valley line which goes to Newark Penn Station with connections for NYC and other Nj cities. Both SP and Fanwood housing prices have come down a bit but are still above $400/500,000. A friend of mine has a nice 4bdr, 2 1/2 bath colonial in SP and the value is about$700k. He's paying close to $11K in taxes! Two links you might be interested in are the following. The first is the top 75 highschools in NJ and the second is the top 100 towns in thew state.
