We are moving to northern River Vale. My husband will be commuting to midtown. I know there are train stations in surrounding towns. Which one is the best in regards to parking or is it better to take a bus?

you may be better off with the bus or If the train station is walking distance then use train then get 165P from westwood the NJT buses will honor rail passes that are to and from penn station
If your moving to Northern River Vale i would use the Park Ridge or Woodcliff lake Station. Keep in mind Woodcliff lake has no weekend or Holiday service. There is street / permit parking for both stations. Going down to Westwood and taking the bus if you live up in Northern River Vale is silly and time consuming and there is no bus parking.
I believe you could park on the side streets across from the Westwood Station and take the train from there. The train might cost a few bucks more but it is MUCH better than the 165 even with the Secaucus transfer. I used to take the 165 back to NY from band rehearsal in Westwood and it was the most miserable bus rides of my life. I'd rather take Chinatown buses from Philly to NY than the 165.

Non residents can't park on the side streets in Westwood for the train station or at the station. You can only do that on Sundays....

I mean 165P variant parkway express only at rush. During off peak of course the train is faster!!!! I guess I will have to be specific in my posts as you ppl really dont understand me at all. Plus rail pass works on buses at no extra charge anyway. This only works at rush hour but however there are express trains you can use that are way faster but only a few

I agree the 165 if slow but you used the local variant. The P variant was the one I recommended since it is non stop express from westwood area so it acts like a bypass. During off hours try ur best to avoid 165 LOL sorry for not being specific enough 165 has faster versions at rush hour therefore ONLY AT RUSH HOUR will it even have a chance of beating the train outside of that the train is literally the best option the rail pass gives you more choice than the bus pass

If you anything about this area , you would know that theres no Express service on the Pascack Valley line in NJ. The Train is also slower then the bus by 15 mins and the bus is often overcrowded unlike the train. Once again you have assumed that one service is better then the other based on facts you read on bus websites. Unless you have personal experience or really know the line , i would not comment. Your giving bad and costly advice.....

if you use red and tan yes if you use express ones at emerson then no. However if you use bus at off-peak then I will agree that the train is faster reread my post there is a big difference between 165P and the regular slow 165. I am aware that rail is better in this senario read carefully before knocking something.

I said off peak train vs off peak 165 I dont assume any service is better I assume they are unique for time of day I have visited this area I know that. when you say bus faster you are referring to the 11c or red and tan 11A. I dont say buses are better they are just a different option and since westwood is the first stop on the 165P the overcrowding won't be an issue for these ppl if they use the train to westwood they have a 90% chance of getting a seat. Plus stop mistaking me for a bus guy I am not just about bus I know rail and bus. I am a transit fan not just bus fan gont get it confused now stop bashing me and get off my case. I wouldnt recommend a service without knowing its ins and outs. So ur assumption is way off
