My first floor is always a bit cooler in winter but that is mostly true of all 2 story houses unless you have a multi zone system.

The reason I think its dumb is the attic is not insulated and considered a cold/hot zone. So it has to work that much harder to overcome the cold/heat to keep the house at a constant temp.

Why why not insulate it. Its a relatively simple project anyone can do and the savings is likely worth it.

Also, with heat rising, I would imagine there isn't much cold to overcome in the winter time. My attic is also uninsulated right now and it was never very cold in the winter time with the heat rising. The temp in the rooms should be constant based on where your thermometer is, which isn't near the unit in the attic.
