Garden State Parkway Closure (http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/garden-state-parkway-to-close-20110825-lgf - broken link)

All southbound traffic on the GSP below exit 98 is banned at 8 PM tonight.

Cant say I think that is a good idea.

How do you prevent people from using a Toll Road? We pay for it , we should be able to use it...

Same as any road, and we pay for all of them (if not tolls, then taxes).

It does seem a bit early for that closure.

I saw that on the news. What exactly is the purpose of doing that? To keep people from going to the shore to see the ocean/waves?

They will barricade it & police will be there to arrest you if you try to go around or move the barricade.

I live in an apartment complex in Edison. I'm still unsure if I should stay or head out west... I'm mostly worried about my car which will be parked in the community parking lot. In the 2.5 years I've lived there we've never had any problems with flooding.

Yup. The east/west roads will be shut down, too after giving time for the evacuation.

of course, anything is possible. which is why there is always something to say when someone is suggesting things wont be so bad. "oh well the people in katrina probably didnt think it was going to be that bad." im not saying dont be prepared, everyone should prepare for the worst (within reason). but we shouldnt get hysterical and believe there is going to be massive destruction. the history just doesnt support that in this area.

I agree, it is a bit premature for this particular closure.
