i love cupcakes but i dont remember the last time i purchased them. there is some new yogurt/cupcake place on lbi now. i went there for the first time and had some yogurt sundae. it was scrumptious! i made it myself. apparently thats pretty common but i havent seen it around where i live. they were selling more yogurt but the cupcakes were selling also.
My friend started his business 5 years ago and now has 4 locations in NJ , my other friend started a small cafe in JC a few years ago and now is expanding. If the food is priced and at good Quality people with keep coming back and you will be able to expand. The Market for small cafes , bakeries and Food trucks is doing very well so i expect to see more over the next 10 years. Unfortnatly these places don't hire more then 10 or 15 people , and seem to do better during the warmer months....
I don't understand it, either. There are at least 4 cupcake places that I know of that opened up here, 2 on the boardwalk (I don't see cupcakes as boardwalk fare and seems very messy for kids to eat while walking). I even saw a cupcake truck (like a lunch truck but they only sold cupcakes) on the street! I don't get it, but that guy did have a line. I don't think the boardwalk stores are doing that well, though. The one on Asbury is ridiculous, it's like $3.00 a cupcake! I can make 2 dozen cupcakes for that!
They're the new coffee shops (ironically, ours is right next to our coffee shop). You can get good quality cupcakes ondemand for just a few bucks. Sure, you can make them at home, but who has time for all that and what are you going to do with 2 dozen cupcakes when you only want one?
In terms of the price, the math makes sense too. If you make 2 dozen cupcakes, it's going to take an hour or so after icing them. 2 dozen cupcakes at a store would cost you about $50. Is an hour of your time really worth only $50, when the product of return has diminishing value (is 24 cupcakes really that much more enjoyable than 2 or 3?)?
I like our local one and all the business it has created for our town.

But you could just go to the grocery store and buy 2 dozen for about $10.
But these are gourmet cupcakes , not your average brand...
