The other day I was reading the news in nj. I think that even with all the soprano jokes, turnpike jokes and smog nj might still be the best option.......

Wait dont hang me yet, if you compare a home in Newark Nj ,Jersey City Nj,
Trenton Nj, to the worst parts of brooklyn you'll see houses are still affordable......

You can buy nice homes in essex county nj under 200,000, hudson county nj,
Middlesex county nj, union county nj, under 300k.....

Also consider affordable homes in mercer county nj are under 150k in some pretty decent areas compare that with the price of homes in let's say east new york brooklyn where you have to step over crackheads for over 400k.

I'll take my chances in nj anyday. Are you kidding me?

North Jersey for under 200K? Does a handgun and a kevlar vest come complimentary with the closing?

Let me add to this: and have given away your rights to future "acceptable" property tax payments no matter where in NJ you may buy.

I am from So Cal and even with the high property taxes you can still get more house, more land, and more beauty in NJ than here in the OC. I have been researching NJ for over a year due to a possible relocation. We just sold a 50 yr old home 3bd,2bath 1600 sq ft (in a very desirabel neighborhood, great school district) for $875,000. Our lot is only 8000sq ft and that is big for our neighborhood. We pay for a nice, safe area, good school district and lots of trees. Something you guys in NJ take for granted. We have hardly any backyard and little sq footage. Our house was in okay shape but nothing like the ones I have been looking at in NJ. And I don't know where you would find anything for $200,000 that would not be in major gang territory. I know NJ and OC both have their faults but you can still get more for your dollar there. Appreciate it!

NJ people are just a bunch of grumbling, complaining, crybabies. We make more money for comparable jobs in other states. We live in nice homes on decent size lots. Many of us have three or more cars, a TV in every room. We take expensive vacations and yet we still complain about taxes.

Ask the constuction worker in NC making 30K a year living in a 200K house paying $1,500 in property taxes if he would swap jobs with a NJ construction worker making 100K, living in a 600k house and paying 12,000 in taxes. Just who is better off?

BTW I have been living here and complaing just like the rest for more than 60 years. Sometimes we just don't know when we are well off.

Of course if you are retired the above rant does not count.

I haven't seen any homes under 200k in Essex (the safer, more "decent" areas, anyway), but I'm sure with diligent looking, there are (and even without looking in East Orange/Orange/Newark, etc)!

Yes, we have plenty fo areas like that here as well. 50 year old capes with 3 bedrooms that need serious updating for 1 mil. Areas like Short Hills, Alpine, etc...

As for $200,000, anything like that would be in a war zone here too.
