I do live in Essex, and I would love to move to a large piece of land out there. My wife has other ideas, and I do want to stay married to her so in Essex I will stay. But Essex and Bergen are not universally better, or more desirable. Just more crowded.

The Most Affluent Top Town in New Jersey Is Mountain Lakes in Morris County-www.njmonthly.com
Well, the people in Alpine only make, on average, $14K less per year than the Mountain Lakes people, so relatively speaking, it's not that far off.

But, OMG! The often-likened-to-Heaven Westfield is not in the top ten! You mean all those droves of City-Data inquirers who have been buying up properties there left and right are really living amongst a bunch of low-income nobodies? The horror! The horror!

that the towns with the big estates may not have as many rich people, but they also lack the poor people to bring down the average. so they should be higher by income.

im one who would prefer the big estate type houses and properties. nice and scenic and peaceful.

Unless they had to commute to the city.

in 2010, Forbes listed Alpine as 4th most expensive zip code in the country, with a median home price of 3.8 million. this list has Alpine's median household income at $167K. how can this be possible?

Difference between income and wealth.

Income is how much money you make, wealth is how much money you have. They don't always match.
