Possibly thru a dental school?- Do they still offer something like that. When I lost my job I lost a great dental plan. After 2 yrs- I finally found an acceptable position, that I can live with.- However, although thier health plan is OK- No dental- - any suggestions? experiances??

I don't know of any in NJ but my brother and coworker used NYU's dental school. I heard the wait is long but it's worth it if the fees are nominal.

Here are some reviews.

Good luck!

I dunno...I wouldn't go messing around with my teeth by cheaping out on dental care. Teeth play a pivotal role in how you look (healthy? diseased? professional? meth addict?), how and what you can and can not eat, and they can cause you PAIN.

I'd sooner shell out for my own dental insurance plan than take my chances with a dental school or Dr. Giggles at the discount clinic. You can find plans for anywhere between $20 to $80 a month. Even if you were to go all out and get an extravagant Cadillac plan for $85 a month, that's still not really that bad. It's nowhere near as expensive as medical insurance. I mean, I know people that drop $85 a month on Starbucks.

The website below is really useful for finding and researching different dental (and health) insurance plans:

Try this: Becoming a Patient at NJDS

I knew a guy who went this route a couple years ago with good results.

I got my 2nd set of braces at UMDNJ, my case was severe and needed special attention, and they gave me perfect teeth. Even though students work on you, they are supervised by a pro. It was the best decision and they are much cheaper, but there is a loooong waiting list. Luckily I started my treatments back in 2001, now it may be years to get in there.
