I would like to hike to a large mountain precipice if possible. Or maybe just something up high with a view. I know there's some mountains up there, but I don't know anything about them. Has anyone been up there?

If you want a good hike with a view of water not quite in NORTH Jersey, do the most challenging trail at Hartshorne Park in Monmouth County.

Or try the Palisades along the Hudson.

For one of the best views in NJ try the Stairway to Heaven trail near Butler. Nice hike, (part of the Appalachian Trail) well maintained, and an amazing panoramic view from the precipice. for more information see:

If you want to drive a little further there are some great hikes and views all around the Delaware Water Gap. (Mt Tammany, has a breathtaking view of the Gap and beyond. This time of year it is great to take a short snack break at the summit and watch the hawk and raptor migration. Bald Eagles are commonly spotted riding the thermals. Bring some binoculars!)

Enjoy!

Do you take a camera with you? If so, take some pictures and post them on the NJ Picture thread above!
