We have only street parking in the front of our house.

Our street is cleaned 4 times a week -- 2 days on our side and 2 days on the opposite side -- meaning car has to be moved almost everyday.

Like most people in Jersey City, I take the PATH train to work and do not drive. So this means I have to move my car everyday after work and its not easy or fun to look for a spot everyday.

(The nearest parking lot is 150-200 yards away so that's not cool with kids and wife at night etc)

HOWEVER -- we have a backyard that can have some access. Question is -- - can we start parking out car in the backyard ? Do we need a permit of some sort ? What if we do or do not build any structure / garage ?

Who in the city/ county can confirm this ?

I don't think you can do that without a permit and you would probably have to put down concrete/tar or a similar substrate. I know people who have gotten tickets for parking on their lawn when one car is halfway off the driveway and half on the lawn so there must be an ordinance about it. It may be a city by city thing though. I'd call the town hall and ask them.
