My wife and I are considering moving to Bayonne and renting there for a year. We were wondering what neighborhoods to look into as we have a 10 yr. old and a 5 yr. old, so safety and school is important.
I can't speak to schools, but I lived in Bayonne for a while. I lived uptown near the park. I really liked it there. I never felt unsafe. You can walk to and take the light rail from most areas in Bayonne, the light rail can take you to the PATH into the city or to NJ transit or Amtrak trains. I think Bayonne is probably the best place in Hudson County. You avoid crime and ultra-expensive rent/housing and cost of living.
Some public schools are better than others. I'd recommend looking around Horace Mann School, 35-43 streets. Good neighborhood, very close to hudson county park. close to 45th st light rail.
But depends what feel you're going for. Parts of downtown are much more "quiet"
Midtown community school is nice also. My son went there when I lived in Bayonne a little over a year ago. I think Bayonne is pretty good for kids. There are a lot of parks and not a lot of crime. I lived in Midtown and it was very nice there and quiet.
What streets are considered Midtown? 35-43 st? East of Broadway or West? does it really matter?
In regards to what feel. Pretty much a family friendly area where kids can be kids and play w/other kids. Not too far from a park.
Thank you
I don't know the exact borders of the different sections of town, but midtown starts somewhere in the mid to upper teens and goes to the 30's. Generally the western half of the town is nicer, but there were parts of the eastern side that I really liked. I lived on west 21st street right along the Newark Bay. It was nice around there and very quiet.
