I am contemplating moving to Springfield Twp with my wife and 2 young children. I will be commuting to NYC, and my oldest will be entering Kindergarten next year. We have found a decent house on a nice street that is pretty convienient to the NYC bus and walkable to the Jitney to the Short Hills station.

My wife is now having second thoughts about the town. She is concerned mainly about the schools, and has started looking for more houses in Westfield, Millburn, and Cranford. Our budget is pretty low ($450k). Generally, it seems that Springfield has cheaper housing than the other towns mentioned, especially Millburn.

So how "bad" are the schools there? I know they aren't as good as Millburn's. I don't believe that good schools are the only determining factor for how successful a child will be in terms of college and a career, I don't necessarily need to live in a town with the best schools in the state. I went to Phillipsburg High School (which I'm sure is rated poorly) and still turned out OK.

I lived there most of my life and I got into a good school as did my step brother who just graduated 3 years ago. As far as the town goes, I loved it there and most of family still resides there. The onyl reason I moved out of Springfield ws that there was a limited number of condos/townhouses and as I am single I did not want to be in a single fam house by myself.

I would recommend the town to anyone that asked. You are within driving distance of Millburn, Westfield and Cranford for the shops and restaurants and the taxes and house prices are much lower.

I live in Union right on the border of SPringfield and also i am a realtor in that area and i will recommend Springfiend to anybody who is looking for a nice and quiet town. Springfield is very nicely located close to all the highways and shopping centers, its quiet and safe with schools that are not overcrowded. Taxes are not that bad considering the houses and property and i tell you that my next house i will buy most likely will be in SPringfield.
