I have their salary guide for this year. It goes from 51k to 79k over 16 years. The big "bump" happens 9 years in. Step 6 is not at 60K.
Now maybe they had experience before they got there, but given the compression of the steps on their guide (they had 19 before the current contract), there is no way they are on the 6th step at 60k unless they are doing a bunch of activities.

well, the rav4 is a great car. i have a 2005 and im not excited about getting rid of it. id just go right into a new rav4 but its not the same as the 2005. they made newer models longer.
Agreed it's a nice car but hardly a BMW. That being said my wife has a Honda cr-v and loves it.

she actually drives a bmw 5 series, pretty nice. but im less concerned with pay rate than retirement benefits. switching to a 401k would help a lot. with all the current undunded obligations, the future of public schools is less teachers but still greater expense due to retirement benefits. its not a good way of paying for people, pay for them while they work for you.

Data universe does not tell you years experience it tells you years in district.
If someone switches districts and they were on another guide (or had relevant experience) they start on an equivalent step.
For example JROTC teachers are usually near the top of the guide even a year or two in because they get credit for their years of service. My entry on DU only includes my years in my current district as well.

Additionally, if you look at du, to get into the 70s you need a masters degree and over 10 years of experience in the district. And the people who have less years in than that, like a math teacher with only 2 years in the district, has another 15 years of teaching experience elsewhere.

i believe she has a masters degree. im not interested in getting her fired, i dont really care what she earns. i just mentioned her because i know her earnings didnt seem to fit what was being said here. my general problem with compensation of public employees is the future obligations that get locked in today.
