I've been through 2 windshields already, currently have cracks and chips on my NEW windshields, but have decided not to replace them again.

You can start with not driving right behind a truck. Keep your distance and try to drive ahead of the truck.

I've been commuting for years along with my wife. It's part of life. I have had close to ten windshields cracked or nicked in some shape or form. I don't run out to get it replaced unless it's a safety issue with a large crack. Some windshield repair companies will fill in a small nick or crack with a glue like material in an effort to stop the spreading of spider cracks. They charge anywheres from 50-100 bucks. I always try to keep a distance from other vehicles but it is inevitable that you will receive a crack or two if you drive thousands of miles.

Abuse, forever. Don't drive behind them, just stay away, stay in the left lane and pass quickly, etc. I have no problem avoiding them. You just have to pay attention. In the final analysis, windshields are a maintenance item in the world of NJ driving. You replace them periodically as you would your tires and brake pads.
