Of course, since these offshore radar installations were not known to the general public at that time, there was a lot of confusion at first regarding exactly what happened, and where. This was a genuine tragedy for the victims and their families, and one that apparently many folks nowadays are not aware of!

I would have been 2 and a half, so naturally I don't remember (although a week after this happened, my mother came home from the hospital with a new baby sister, and I do remember that. I thought it was a doll, and then it moved and made scary noises.)
I don't recall anyone ever mentioning it, though. My late father, who was a disabled WWII vet, would have taken notice of this.
I'm a bit of a disaster junkie, and it interested me. I did find another site that mentioned the 50th anniversary and memorialized those who died.
