I believe it. On Columbus Day, I drove my mother to the Poconos. I counted nine dead deer alongside the roads--seven in NJ and two in PA. Finally saw three live ones.
i was driving north on 35 near costco in hazlet last week and a deer ran right in front of me and crossed the street. because i am a highly skilled driver, i was able to brake and avoid the deer but it was a close call. if he would have decided not to jump the median and turn back, im sure i would have nailed him because stopping wasnt possible with that distance. they are all over the road between my place and my mother in laws, she said she passed 3 in the road during her drive to me.
they should just let the hunters have at them and sell me the meat dirt cheap.
this is a very sad thing. In Vermont, I have NEVER seen a dead deer in the road. And I will add to this, I've never even seen a deer in the woods.
I am not sure what the deal is. Maybe deer just don't have a lot of places to go here? and they live deeper in the woods than I venture in VT?
in VT, hunters are allowed to use rifles to kill bucks only 2 weeks per year, I think they can kill 1 or 2 bucks.
I think it's also that Vermont is sparsely populated and there aren't as many cars on the roads. Or roads for that matter. Here the deer are mixed in with the human civilization.

I'll add to that by saying I rarely see ANY road kill in VT, deer or otherwise.

This has a lot to do with it. There are more woodlands for them to live in and they needn't stray into the road as much.
However, they have moose up there. You don't want to hit one of those, trust me.
People should pay attention. I drive through towns that are known for deer populations everyday and I always slow down, turn on my beems and look for them in their typical gazing spots. They usually keep eating in the same areas.
Why should we kill them just because humans don't have common sense.
I say leave them alone.
