I've looked outside my house for the past few weeks and I noticed that some leaves on the edges of trees are starting to yellow. I've seen a couple of trees around NJ that are already super red and there is a big tree on my block that is already super red. Most leaves around NJ are getting a lighter shade of green. I checked the fall foliage map and we are "getting there" to the peak, but the peak is not until October.

With all the heat, they may be just dead.

October or November we used to play in the leaf piles in Upstate NY...

Peak in NNJ is usually around the last two weeks of October, but there are some trees/areas that peak before that. Last year the fall was so hot a lot of the leaves never really turned—they just stayed on until November and then turned brown.

Haven't noticed myself. But I wish this heat and humidity would just go away for good already.

I happened to catch a story on the local news last night that said the foliage would be delayed this year due to all the rain (they also said the colors would be less "vibrant" for the same reason). But I have also noticed that many trees seem to be changing already.

My neighbor has a maple tree in his yard. That thing is usually green until early November and the leaves don't usually fall off until about Thanksgiving.

I’ve seen some yellows and browns on the trees around me, but that’s due to fungal leaf scorch and other pest and disease issues, not early fall dormancy.
