Yes, if you're exhausting air from the house, this can create a draft down the chimney (to replace the exhaust air).

Most likely cause (if chimney and cap are clear) is that your furnace came on while you were lighting your stove. Most likely, your cold air return is in the living room with the fireplace. Your furnace will pull the smoke right down the chimney.

Also, your CAT should have a by-pass for lighting the stove. And your CAT has to be clean.

A chimney sweep will not service the stove. The will only check the components of the chimney and cap. While they might offer advice on a masonry fireplace, each stove and the service is not in their area of responsibility.

Check here ....

under Resources and you will see an area for manuals.

Find your model and download the manual if your manual isn't current or the correct one. They also have other helpful documents for the first time fireplace owner.

They look nice but handled improperly can be dangerous or fatal.

You can also find dealers for those stoves if repairs are needed or you want service. I had my wood burning stove serviced every so often. In some cases only the gasket packing was replaced. In others, the stove was removed and ash was cleaned from the surrounding areas.
