Hi
I am about to relocate to Jersey City from Florida for work, with my family (spouse/1 preschooler/1 baby).
We are looking to rent in one of the apartment buildings in the Paulus Hook part of Jersey City (Hudson Point, Liberty Towers, Windsor/Portside Towers etc).

Can anyone give me an idea of how much I am likely to spend on heating/cooling per month - coming from Florida I am a loss as to what this will run. One of the buildings we have looked at charges $135 per month for sewage/trash/heating. Most of the others the tenant is responsible for all utilities.

I am unsure how much to budget for heating in the winter. I understand it will depend on how much we use the heat - but ballpark figures would be appreciated.

We will rent a 2 bed, 2 bathroom.

Thanks so much.

Bizarre that you both post on the same day.

Renting in Paulus Hook/ JC.

What's driving all the out-of-staters to Paulus Hook? Just curious.

Because that's where the jobs are. Downtown waterfront in jersey city is a giant job pool in itself with all the highrise office buildings for the financial industry's back/middle office. And across the river 1 path stop away is NYC...

To answer OP's original question, it varies greatly. My advise to you is to get a rental with heat included, or make sure it has central heating. Many of the rental units have PTAC electric heating units, those run $350 a month in electricity cost during winter for heating 1BR when the temperatures drops below 20 and it kicks into resistence heating mode.
