Bernardsville and Mendham are two examples. I'd be happy if we scrapped the entire public education system and had only vouchers for private schools. Educators would be in higher demand and people could choose the best school for their kids.

But the purpose of this thread is about Chris Christie and 2013. I think Christie will be re-elected because of his many accomplishments and for turning this state's fiscal health and economy around.

I also think he will be re-elected because the perception is that he did those things. The reality is different however. The problem he will face is does reality catch perception before the election.

Default Your Mayor and council must have raised your taxes because Christie did not sign a tax increase

When state aid is cut to towns and schools most towns have to lay off school employees, cut police, less employees, less garbage collection and so forth. In addition to raising taxes to make up for the shortfall. It's very, very easy not to send aid to towns. It's very, very hard to solve the property tax problem. His smoke and mirrors game has not reduced my tax responsibility in any shape and form. I know the republican mantra is less govt. aid to people but that aid has to be made up somewhere along with cuts. It's a magicians act. I went to NYC last week and the toll was 12 bucks, last time I checked his signature was still wet from signing the increase.

Exactly!

There is a minimum level of municipal services that local authorities know they have to provide. When state funding is cut, local property taxes frequently have to rise in order to provide at least this minimum level of services.

All that our esteemed governor is doing is passing the burden downward to mayors, city managers, and council members so that he can say something along the lines of...I did my part by cutting expenses, and now they have to do the same...or some equivalent BS. However, because there will always be some services that cannot be cut without seriously impacting the local quality of life, the local officials are forced to raise more revenue in order to make up for the shortfall from Trenton.

Just smoke and mirrors, as usual.

Where the Governor is correct in his position that towns must cut their compensation. If State aid continues to come in they do not make that difficult decision.

I can tell you if you look at what the State pays managers versus what the towns pay their managers is a significant difference. Look at Police Chiefs vs the Chief of Operations position at the State level. Look at Cabinet positions in Education vs the Supers at local level. Look at Division Directors vs Town managers. In all cases the locals pay 30-60% more

Chris Christie is the best politician in America. It pains me to even call him a politician. He's a leader! Give him two full terms in NJ. Then maybe he can help fix the federal government (if it is even able at this late stage, to be fixed)
