Your relationship with your son is almost at an end. You will blame it on his drug use, but that won't be it.

I certainly hope its not the case with this family but when mom pops pills and dad drinks while they preach the evils of "street" drugs most kids shut down, young people are very well tuned to hypocrisy.

I work in a medical toxicology lab. When employers or others wanting drug screens set up their programs they have a choice of what they want to test for and how they want the minimum cutoff set. So not every employer, etc is testing for the same drugs. Most people who believe they have beat the system were never tested for the drug they were using. There are also minimum thresholds, so if you are a casual user or it was several weeks ago you may not trigger the threshold for being positive. And don't try to fight it, every positive specimen is run more than once to be sure it is not a mistake.

With the newer testing methods it is literally impossible to pass a test if you are using the drug being tested for. Drinking the tea, taking the vitamins, drinking gallons of water, buying a clean specimen will all trigger repeat testing procedures. There are basic requirements before actual testing even takes place. And all of the above mentioned techniques, and more, will all disqualify a specimen from being tested. Our lab lists it as a "potentially adulterated or comtaminated" specimen and suggests that a new specimen be collected. Some of our testing at outpatient sites gives immediate results via a test strip on the outside of the sample cup that detects the more common drugs. Those specimens only come to our lab for the confirmatory testing as every positive specimen must be re-tested to prove it was not a mistake.

All that being said, hair is the better alternative. You just can't fake that one. If you are using recreational drugs then your best bet is to avoid employers who do urine or hair drug screens. You have no idea which drugs they are testing for and the odds are that you would come up positive. I also know that the employers in our area share resumes and seem to somehow indicate that they would not hire a certain individual. So if you blow it with one employer, you may blow it with a lot of employers, especially in the same job field within a geographical area. Also, since medical information is confidential, the employer only knows that your specimen was positive, not what drug was positive and not at what level. You can be just over the limit for marijuana and they may think you were doing oxy. All they know is that something came up positive and it can just trigger a lot of perceptions. Where I work 9 out of 10 urine screens from employers comes back positive. We have a lot of experience at our lab!

Some show up for physicals with shaved heads.

When my wife went back to work, she applied at her old employer, a major corporation. A dozen or so applicants made it through the testing process. After the physical, she was pleased to be offered the job, surprised when told that she was the only one who passed the drug test!

For any job or any kind of real testing, it must be done at the testing center and administered by their staff. Bringing in a sample is a bad idea, because it could be tampered with and for drug screening for a job it must be done at the testing center. Also, hair samples from your head can also be taken at a test center. This shows for drugs over a longer period of time than a urine test.

The only way to raise your children is to set a good example and become their friend rather than treat them like a parolee, try that and they will hate you and turn to the streets for advice.

its a sad fact that in every family there is an addict, by supporting them and communicating like a friend not an authority figure they are more likely to admit that they are experimenting with mind altering substances rather than forcing them to pee in a cup.

Our generation and all other American generations before this one did not fall apart because they were drug addicts running amok even though we were never drug tested growing up, how is that possible? american society is falling apart and its not dr Dre's fault.

I hope your son understands your fears and does not ask his friends how to beat future drug tests because they know its possible by huffing Nitrous oxide and gold paint and buying synthetic drugs online.

You must be in the 'hood or some trash area because only a moron would sniff glue or other crap like "bathsalts"
