Which towns along the Jersey Shore are considered the safest from a severe storm or hurricane? Is there a national rating system that ranks shore towns by: least amount of rainfall, property damage, flooding, power outages, etc. ? I'm trying to determine which shore towns are the safest to live in based on how well they withstand severe weather each year. Thanks
Really?
My family has lived in Manasquan and Sea Girt town for over 100 years. The worst damage was one large branch in the driveway and lost power for 15 mins from Irene. Hurricanes are basically a non-issue.
Noreasters are a bigger issue. There are reports of flood zones available from the national insurance office. Avoid them and LBI and you should be fine.
I don't consider Point Pleasant Beach part of the barrier island; it is a peninsula, though, separated by a canal.
That is true. I should have been a bit more specific in my post. The Northern Most mile of Ocean County isn't "barrier island". I Grew up in PPB so I know the geography very well

Well technically Point Pleasant Beach all the way down to Island Beach State Parks southern most point Barnegat Inlet is surrounded by water and the only way off is by bridge, so maybe it can be considered a barrier island. Thats about a 20 mile stretch. A true barrier island to me would be Long Beach Island, 18 miles long and no wider than 1 mile.

The Point Pleasant Canal dug in the 1920s made it an island. Just as Cape Cod and the Delmarva Peninsula are now "islands" from canals being built. There is some marketing stuff that talks about Barnegat Beach Island and I know that people in Lavallette talk about living on "the Island"
