I live in Little Falls NJ and am already brainstorming where to have my little guys 1st bday party. I was looking for a hall type place instead of a venue where you have to pay per head. I want to have it privately catered and do my own decor. Im also getting a dj can anyone recommend a place in either of these counties? Thanks so much!

Call any American Legion or VFW hall. That's the first thing that would come to my mind, anyway. Did my daughter's christening at a VFW in Fair Lawn.

Her first birthday party was in my mom's backyard. We had a barbecue. She's 20 now--I guess times have changed. Never heard of a DJ for a baby's first birthday, but hey, have fun!

I don't know about your budget or how many people you plan to have at at your son's party, but I've been at some beautiful and great parties at VFW and American Legion halls as well. You can also opt to rent out "a clubhouse" from one of the communities nearby....like Packanack Lake in Wayne. Each place has different guidelines for catering, clean-up, etc. Good luck with your party planning and have fun! Happy birthday to your son...treasure him.

Two places I can think of

1) Verona Park may let you rent out their dining facility, not sure. I know when I was a kid, I loved that place because of the walking paths, playground, and having ice cream at the dining facility there.

2) Montclair Women's Club rents out space I believe

Women's club is a nice space and "do it youself" . I think Brownstone in Patterson, while nice, is a pay per head.

Just about any VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and some firehouses.
